DESCRIPTION:Aerosol particles have a big impact on the Earth's climate\, hu
 man \nhealth\, and the input of nutrients and pollutants into ecosystems. 
 But \nhow do these tiny particles get into the atmosphere? There are natur
 al \nsources such as desert dust and sea spray\, and there are anthropogen
 ic \nsources such as soot particles from combustion processes. Some partic
 les \nare emitted directly into the atmosphere while others are formed fro
 m \nprecursor gases after chemical reaction. Many of these processes are n
 ot \nfully understood and cannot be quantified without large uncertainties
 . \nWe will look at recent advances in our understanding of atmospheric \n
 aerosol sources and some large gaps that still exist.
